With the Launch of TRANS Bahagia Electric Buses, Jambi City Advances Its Commitment to Sustainable Public Transportation

Press Release

Adding More Electric Bus Units and Free Rides Until 2025

Jambi, 24 October 2025 – The Jambi City Government continues its commitment to creating a greener city by launching environmentally friendly, electric-based public transportation. The fleet includes three (3) medium electric buses and three (3) electric minibuses (angkot), inaugurated on Friday evening (24/10) during the Carnaval Angso Duo Kota Jambi in front of thousands of residents. The inauguration was led by Dr. dr. H. Maulana, M.K.M, Mayor of Jambi, and Diza Hazra Aljosha S.E., M.A., Deputy Mayor of Jambi, together with Albert Aulia Ilyas, President Director of KALISTA as the EV ecosystem provider, Novi Candra Hermawan, President Director of Yutaka as the operator, and representatives from the Jambi City Government and Forkopimda.

The presence of these eco-friendly public transport units marks a new milestone not only for Jambi City, but also for Jambi Province and Indonesia as a whole. This includes the introduction of Indonesia’s first electric feeder angkot operating under the Buy the Service (BTS) scheme.

Green, Safe, and Comfortable Public Transportation

The inauguration of the electric buses further strengthens Jambi City Government’s commitment to supporting sustainable mobility, reducing motor vehicle emissions, and providing safe and comfortable public transportation. High public enthusiasm prompted the city to add four new units: one 6-meter medium bus with 26-seat capacity and a 105 kWh battery, and three 5-meter electric angkot units with 10-seat capacity and 42 kWh batteries. These complete the two medium buses previously deployed during the trial phase. All units are equipped with air conditioning and safety features including CCTV, emergency doors, glass-breaking hammers, and fire extinguishers to ensure passenger comfort and safety. The addition of new units aims to reduce passenger waiting time.

“The inauguration of these electric buses marks a concrete step by the Jambi City Government in providing more environmentally friendly public transportation. We must begin shaping the future of transportation to ensure smooth and efficient mobility, especially to prevent congestion caused by growing vehicle numbers without road expansion,” said Dr. dr. H. Maulana, M.K.M, Mayor of Jambi.

“Quality public transportation is one of the attributes of a developed city. Moving forward, we will gradually increase the number of electric buses so that more Jambi residents can enjoy this service,” he added.

KALISTA’s President Director, Albert Aulia Ilyas, emphasized, “This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to accelerating the transition toward environmentally friendly public transportation in Jambi City. Seeing the high public enthusiasm and positive passenger satisfaction survey results, KALISTA is confident that electric buses will make a real contribution in reducing pollution while providing public transportation that is safe, comfortable, punctual, and environmentally friendly — creating a happier, pollution-free Jambi City.”

Until December 2025, Jambi residents can enjoy free rides simply by tapping their ID card or electronic cards such as Flazz or e-Money on the Tap on Bus (TOB) device. Electric bus operations run from 06:00 to 20:00 WIB, serving three main routes: Terminal Rawasari – Terminal Alam Barajo (via Simpang Kawat) and return, Terminal Alam Barajo – Terminal Rawasari (via Sipin) and return, and Terminal Rawasari – Paal X and return. Energy Cost Savings Reach 57% During Trial Phase

Previously, from 28 May to 30 September, Jambi City completed a trial using two medium electric buses (6-meter and 7-meter), with capacities of 23 and 27 passengers respectively. Public enthusiasm was extremely high, reflected in 36,040 passengers across 3,066 trips. During the trial period, the electric buses traveled a total of 39,492 km with an average daily distance of 180 km. The achieved energy efficiency was 2.03 km/kWh, meaning 1 kWh of electricity enabled a 2.03 km journey. The trial resulted in an energy cost reduction of up to 57% and a 30% reduction in emissions.

Alongside technical and energy performance evaluations, KALISTA and the Jambi City Transportation Agency conducted a customer satisfaction survey. The trial recorded an average score of 3.90 out of 5.00. Comfort scored the highest at 4.27/5.00, covering modern technology features, easy payment systems, and accessibility for disabled passengers. Service quality scored 3.90/5.00, including driver safety and staff professionalism. Supporting facilities scored 3.70/5.00, which included strategic shelter placement and adequate supporting infrastructure. The survey also revealed the Trans Bahagia loyalty index at 71%, indicating that most passengers would recommend and continue using the electric bus service.

At the inauguration, residents expressed positive feedback regarding the expansion of electric bus services. One resident shared that electric buses encourage people to shift to public transportation because they are seen as safer, more comfortable, and environmentally friendly. This collaboration is expected to further drive the public’s interest in adopting clean, convenient public transportation and support the national commitment toward a more sustainable future.
