ITDC and KALISTA Collaboration to Reduce Emissions and Create a Sustainable Tourism Destination

The Nusa Dua, Bali, 13 November 2025 – PT Pengembangan Pariwisata Indonesia or InJourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), together with KALISTA, officially launched a strategic collaboration through the inauguration of an environmentally friendly electric shuttle trial in The Nusa Dua area. The trial began on Thursday (13/11) and was officiated by the Head of Bali Provincial Transportation Office, I Kadek Mudarta S.T., M.A.B; CEO of KALISTA, Albert Aulia Ilyas; General Manager of The Nusa Dua, I Made Agus Dwiatmika; and CEO of Xapiens, Muhamad Nursahid.

This trial program is part of the #BaliBebasEmisi (Emission-Free Bali) initiative and marks the first series of the Electric Bus Program (Conversations for Electric Transport Synergy) initiated by KALISTA as a collaborative platform for cross-sector stakeholders. Through this initiative, ITDC and KALISTA aim to accelerate the adoption of electric-based transportation in Bali and expand the use of commercial EVs within the sustainable tourism sector.

Green Transportation in Tourism Areas

As a commitment to developing a green ecosystem and reducing emissions within the tourism sector, this collaboration marks ITDC’s concrete step in realizing a sustainable tourism destination through the optimization of eco-friendly technologies.

Aligned with sustainable tourism principles, ITDC has previously implemented various sustainability initiatives in The Nusa Dua area, including the operation of Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) for clean water production using seawater, the use of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as an efficient and low-emission energy source, electric vehicles for internal mobility, and solar panel installations as a renewable energy source for operational activities.

These initiatives reinforce ITDC’s role as a world-class tourism destination developer that continues to innovate in creating an environmentally friendly, energy-efficient, and globally competitive area.

“This electric transportation trial initiative is a concrete step from ITDC to strengthen The Nusa Dua’s commitment as an integrated, low-emission sustainable tourism destination. Through the utilization of eco-friendly technology, we are not only providing comfort and efficiency for visitors but also contributing directly to Bali’s carbon emission reduction efforts. In line with the Bali Net Zero Emission 2045 vision, we aim to position The Nusa Dua as a living sustainable tourism laboratory where innovation, energy efficiency, and environmental care go hand-in-hand with high-quality tourism growth,” said ITDC The Nusa Dua General Manager, I Made Agus Dwiatmika.

Through its collaboration with KALISTA, the electric bus trial will integrate Internet of Things (IoT) technology as part of efforts to build a greener, smarter, and more sustainable tourism area, enhancing both visitor safety and comfort.

KALISTA’s CEO, Albert Aulia Ilyas, emphasized that this collaboration is part of the company’s commitment to supporting the realization of #BaliBebasEmisi. “Through this initiative, KALISTA encourages the use of technology as a foundation for creating an efficient and sustainable transportation system. This Electric Bus will be integrated with IoT, enabling real-time monitoring of operations within The Nusa Dua area, including vehicle location, energy and operational cost efficiency, driver behavior, as well as driving patterns such as harsh braking to support efficiency improvements,” he said.

A Joint Step Towards Low-Emission Mobility in Bali

The unit used for the trial, a 7.5-meter Higer bus, has a 134 kWh battery capacity with an estimated range of around 180 km at 80% usage, along with three ALVA electric motorcycles of the One XP, N3, and Cervo X models. Previously, this electric bus unit was used for joint trials with the Bali Provincial Government and Trans Metro Dewata operators.

The trial conducted with the Bali Provincial Government over two months delivered positive results, recording a total distance of over 7,500 km and energy efficiency of 2 km/kWh, meaning 1 kWh of electricity could support up to 2 km of travel. This resulted in 31% energy cost savings and a reduction of 1,830 kg CO₂ emissions, or 30%, compared to conventional buses. As part of the evaluation, a customer satisfaction survey was conducted by KALISTA and the Bali Provincial Government. The trial recorded an average satisfaction score of 4.01 out of 5.00, with the environmentally friendly mode of transportation and its positive social impact receiving the highest score of 4.47/5.00. Comfort quality scored 4.23/5.00, covering driving safety and staff professionalism. Supporting facilities scored 3.59/5.00, covering strategic shelter placement and availability of adequate amenities. Additionally, the EV TMD x KALISTA loyalty index reached 90%, showing that the majority of passengers were willing to recommend the electric bus service in the future.

Following the trial, the Bali Provincial Government is currently in the evaluation stage to determine the next steps for implementation. While awaiting the final decision, the electric bus previously used for Trans Metro Dewata is now utilized by ITDC as a proof of concept for low-emission mobility within the tourism area.

The trial in The Nusa Dua will evaluate different routes, fleet cycles, and operational patterns, but with the same objective: supporting the vision of #BaliBebasEmisi and accelerating Bali’s electric vehicle ecosystem.

The trial is planned to run for approximately one month, with electric bus operations starting from 09:00 to 22:00 WITA, following routes connecting tenants in The Nusa Dua area to popular destinations such as Bali Collection, Museum Pasifika, Devdan Show, and Peninsula Island.
